“Reinforce Radiation and Protection Monitoring” – Authority Urged.
The Ministry of Technology and Science (MoTs) is steadfast to support the Radiation Protection Authority (RPA) strategies to further and augment and reinforce its mandate of “protecting zambians and the environment by additionally securing Zambian borders with measures to vet various entry products from outside the Country which includes building materials, fertilizers, and vehicles among other entry products.
This statement was given by the Minister of Technology and Science Minister Felix C. Mutati during his familiarization tour at the Authority.
The Minister appreciated RPA’s continued demonstration of great efforts rendered to its core function of radiation protection despite the operational challenges it is faced with.
The Minister said RPA is a key driver to economic development. He added that the Ministry will help address the regulator to refurbish and create an appropriate laboratory, procure, and support capacity building interventions.
He further directed the Authority to ensure key sectors such the mining sector and the employees in cancer departments, were monitored and secured in order to reduce on the harm concerned citized would be subject to. He said the Authority must also instill visibility to the members of the public to create public awareness through campaigns.
The Minister urged the Authority to cautiously put to good use the public resources intended for the purpose of enhancing operations.
