The Radiation Protection Authority launched its 2023–2026 Strategic Plan at an event held at the Taj Pamodizi Hotel in Lusaka today, December 28, 2023.
Speaking during the launch of the RPA 2023–2026 strategic plan, Technology and Science Honourable Minister Felix Mutati, who was represented by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Brilliant Habeenzu, said that the government is determined to ensure that the effective use of radiation is monitored as per the mandate of the Radiation Protection Authority.
“The theme of our strategic plan, “Safe and secure people and the environment from the harmful effects of radiation,” reflects the core values that drive our efforts in the Ministry of Science and Technology. We recognise that with the advancements in technology and the increasing use of radiation in various fields, there is a growing need for a robust framework to protect both our citizens and the environment.” he said
Speaking during the launch, the Radiation Protection Authority Executive Director, Dr. Boster Dearson Siwila, explained that the Authority has also set a mission to regulate activities resulting in radiation exposure for the protection of people and the environment from the harmful effects of radiation, adding that in order to enforce this mission, the Authority will ensure transparency, accountability, and teamwork during its operations.
The Radiation Protection Authority Board Chairperson, Brigadier General (RT), Dr. Adrian Maleya, reiterated that the board shall provide the necessary oversight over the management of the authority on the implementation of the strategic plan to ensure the protection of the public, workers, patients, and the environment from the harmful effects that may arise from the use of radiation in the country and beyond.
